About Us

From farming families, we both have a deep connection to rural life and the countryside.  It's rare for us to be seen indoors, even rarer for us to holiday without our fur buddies.

Our Story

We bought Fairfield House in late 2015.  The property was in desperate need of redevelopment, but the house was not important to us...we both had the same dream of owning a property with land.  I had always wanted my horses out the back door, while John wanted space for his collection of tractors and junk.  As luck would have it, the following year, 25 acres of adjoining farmland came onto the market.  With a great deal of effort and a creative business plan, the purchase completed in 2017.

All creatures great and annoying

The small holding is now home to my horse (and her mate), pet pygmy goats and a small flock of bequeathed texel sheep; all either too old or too infirm to make the family's farm dispersal sale.  Depending on the time of your visit, you may be lucky enough to see lambs in the fields, serve witness to our very sorry attempt at sheep shearing or watch the boys romancing the ladies at tupping time!

Our home wouldn't be complete without our dogs.  You will hear Doris before you see her.  She is a beautiful Schnauzer with a bad haircut and a desperate need to announce her presence.  And then there's Reggie...what can I say about Reggie....except he's rarely called Reggie.  He's a rescue; it's not my fault!
